Hi,
So I've heard a lot about this miranda thing and how it seemlessly integrates differing messaging clients into one.
I'm wondering how to configure it, and where to download a pre configured miranda if there is a such thing as one?
Thanks

Miranda is pretty easy to configure once you have it downloaded. The two most importan commands are control shift A to bring up your contacts list and control shift I to bring up new conversations. Once downloaded and the set up file is run. Press control shift A and then go to the accounts menu by pressing alt and arrowing up to set up your various messengers. It can be helpful to google a certain protocol for miranda, if you don't know the right information for one of your messengers. the most difficult to set up for me was facebook chat. the rest were very easy. If you have other questions let me know. There also is a preconfigured Miranda client somewhere out on the net, but I don't have a direct link to it. Hope this helps.

Hi,

If you upgraded from Miraspeak's version to any newer version of Miranda do not go beyond 0.9.35. The version after this kills the system tray icon which means that you will not be able to see when people sign in or send you messages. I was able to see this on my XP Pro system with Jaws 12. If you have the installer for 0.9.35 save it. I noticed and returned to 0.9.35 as soon as I noticed the issue after the upgrade.

Hey everyone,
Does anyone know ware I can get miranda at? I've tried the regular site, but they won't let me download any previous versions.
Thanks,
Chris Harrington

Update,

Miranda fixed the system tray issue back to how it was in 0.9.35 recently. The version numbered 0.9.37 was released either this morning or yesterday. So we can update Miranda IM again with no accessibility issues.

what i can't figure out is why Miranda won't just put a pre-configured version for blind people up on their site? Everyone always has these questions but nobody is really able to answer them because a friend gets it from a friend who got it from a guy who knows this other dude who got it from somewhere he can't remember. If there's going to be a pre-configured version, there needs to be an easy place for everyone to find it.

Furthermore, I downloaded the miranda installer from the site, installed it, and it doesn't seem to be verry accessible... Anyone have a workinjg copy they can give me?
Thanks!!
Chris

See, by default, you have to install a plugin to make the contact list speech-friendly, and you have to go through all kinds of options to get it the way you want it. There are 2 schools of thought here. First one says that they like it because they can get absolutely everything the way they like it, they can get their away messages exactly how they want them, etc. The other school of thought says that people should just be able to install it, enter your credentials and start chatting. You may have to learn a few keystrokes here and there, but that's not a lot to ask there. Also, I use windows live messenger and I can't tell you guys how many times I've gotten messages from people going, uh wow dude, you're online at 4 AM? Actually nope, Miranda just says that I'm online when I'm actually fast asleep. It doesn't report when i've gone idol if I don't set my status to away. The only way Miranda users know if you're away is if you actually do that, and I just don't think to do that, call me lazy if you like. I'm not saying Miranda is bad by any means, but either the pre-configured versions need to be easier to find, or the official Miranda site needs to put the pre-configured version up on theirs, and just instruct blind/vi people to download that one instead of the regular installer.
